White pines along the Tahquamenon River in the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula. We took the "Toonerville Trolley" all-day excursion down the Tahquamenon River. The tour includes a ride on a narrow-gauge railroad and a river boat, and a short hike in the woods. This photo is from the boat.

Ferns along a trail near the Upper Falls on the Tahquamenon River. This trail is on the south side of the river, accessible only by taking the Toonerville Trolley tour.

Upper Tahquamenon Falls211 views2002-06-24
west of Paradise, Michigan, USA

The Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River. This is my favorite waterfall (of the ones I've visited). It is 200 feet (60 m) wide, 50 feet (15 m) high, and is surrounded by spectacular scenery.

The stairs down to the south side of the Tahquamenon River, just downstream of the Upper Falls. This photo was taken from about the same location as the previous photo ("Upper Tahquamenon Falls"), but facing the opposite direction.

A mosquito on the boat we rode on the Tahquamenon River. There were many hundreds of these along the way, especially in the swampy area where we rode the little train.

Lower Tahquamenon Falls153 views2002-06-24

The Lower Falls area of the Tahquamenon River. Although not as dramatic as the Upper Falls, the Lower Falls has its own beauty.

The Lower Falls of the Tahquamenon River. Actually, the Lower Falls consists of several falls such as this.

The Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River again, this time from the north side of the river, on the upper-level trail.

Stairs to Tahquamenon River162 views2002-06-24
west of Paradise, Michigan, USA

Stairs from the upper trail to the lower trail, downstream from the Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River (north side of river). There are about 100 steps there. And yes, we did take them, but the photos from the lower trail weren't as good as the ones presented here.

A Fresnel lens in the Shipwreck Museum. These large lenses are used to focus the light of a lighthouse so that it can be seen for a very long distance.

The Edmund Fitzgerald's ship bell, on display in the Shipwreck Museum. I forget now whether this is the real, refurbished bell, or a replica. I believe it's the former.
