On March 3, 2026 the Storm Prediction Center changed their convective outlooks to use Conditional Intensity Groups (CIG) instead of the simpler “significant” designation. This was a major change for my interpreter program, which took two days of work to simply restore the program’s ability to display the outlooks in their original format. While the SPC did publish the changes in advance, the documentation wasn’t clear enough to identify exactly how my program needed to change.
Now, about two weeks later, I’ve updated the program and the webpage to show the new CIG levels. Unfortunately for testing, there is no severe weather expected for quite a while, so I can’t guarantee that the table will work correctly when there is a significant severe weather forecast. On the plus side, though, the program is written in Rust, so problems are much less likely than they could be. If there are issues, I’ll try to fix them promptly, but there may be a few breaks in service.
