This is one of the many dozens of traffic circles we encountered in Spain (traffic circles are extremely rare in the USA). This one is near the hotel (photo taken from hotel room). Looking SE.

Our rental car3746 views2008-07-25
Totana, Murcia, Murcia, Spain

We rented a Citroën C4 diesel 4-door hatchback. It was an excellent and fuel-efficient car, which was good, given the cost of diesel fuel in Spain (about €1.33/l, $2.15 CDN/l, or $8.00 USD/gallon).

This palm tree was plainly visible from the Lorca Rock Festival. This image, after major photo editing, became the "dot" in the current (as of early 2009) cmsharpe.com logo (the image in the upper-left corner of most of this website, excluding the blog and this photo gallery).

Nightwish at Lorca Rock Festival336 views2008-07-26
Lorca, Murcia, Murcia, Spain
N37.6743 W1.6894 (est. from Google Earth)
Nightwish was the main reason we went to Spain when we did. The reasons are complicated, but we got to see them the night of July 26. The concert was at Recinto Ferial Huerto de la Rueda de Lorca, a fairground (recinto ferial) with a stage for the performers. We only went to see five of the main-feature bands (Helloween, Apocalyptica, Michael Schenker Group, Lordi, and Nightwish), about half the bands that performed.

Narrow road337 views2008-07-27
east of Huesa, Jaén, AndalucÃa, Spain
N37.7604 W3.0289 (approx.)
Narrow roads are common in Spain (and, I assume, most of Europe), but this is the main road (actually, it's the ONLY road -- and it's two-way!) through the small community of Belerdas. We went this way because the highway from Huesa to Quesada was closed due to construction, and this was the indicated detour from Huesa. Looking E.

Overview from Santuario de TÃscar434 views2008-07-27
TÃscar, Jaén, AndalucÃa, Spain
N37.7685 W3.0228
The detour we took (due to road construction between Huesa and Quesada) sent us to the small community of TÃscar, and the sanctuary therein. This is a view from near the sanctuary. The small green dots on distant hillsides are olive trees, of which there are millions in Jaén province. Looking SW.

This is the beautiful restaurant at the sanctuary of TÃscar. We had planned to eat here this day, but didn't know exactly how to get to the restaurant. Fortunately, a detour (the highway between Huesa and Quesada was closed) led us directly to the site! And yes, the food was quite good. Looking SW.
