Hawaii 2010
Honolulu, O'ahu, Big Island
Friday, August 20 through Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Stu flew to Hawaii the day before I did (he had to work on an air traffic surveillance radar), and left the day after I left. These tracks are where I went, with or without Stu. In all cases, auto and bus travel was both of us, while the air travel as me alone, except between islands in Hawaii. The westernmost point of our travel on Oahu is the westernmost place I have ever been. Similarly, our southernmost point on the Big Island (Hawaii) is the southernmost place I've ever been. Since Stu has been to Singapore several times, this trip didn't set any records for him.
Overview
- Overview map—This is a composite map of all the GPS tracks on a blank U.S. states map, with the states we visited highlighted in yellow. (Close-up of Hawaii)
- All GPS tracks / view map—The whole trip. (May take a few seconds to load.)
The trip
Here are the unedited, and unsorted-by-transportation-type GPX files from the GPS:
- August 20: GPX / view map—KOKC to KIAH to PHNL (Oklahoma City OK to Houston TX to Honolulu HI). Also includes a drive over the mountains to the other side of Oahu.
- August 21: GPX / view map—around Oahu. This track includes the westernmost place I've ever been—just east of Waialua.
- August 22: GPX / view map—Honolulu to the Big Island (Hawaii). This track includes the southernmost place I've been (apparently about 10 km west of Naalehu HI).
- August 23: GPX / view map—around Honolulu.
- August 24-25: GPX / view map—PHNL to KIAH to KOKC (Honolulu HI to Houston TX to Oklahoma City OK). The Honolulu to Houston leg is missing because the GPS couldn't get a stable signal from the middle of the plane.
