Maine 2023 (February)
Ellsworth and vicinity
Sunday, February 12 through Sunday, February 19, 2023
We flew from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Portland, Maine via Chicago O"Hare International Airport. It was Super Bowl Sunday, so there were very few people traveling, which was glaringly obvious in the nearly empty (usually very crowded) Concourse C at O'Hare International Airport (near Chicago, Illinois). We spent most of the week in Ellsworth, Maine at the house, mainly attempting to make our steep driveway passable…unsuccessfully. We returned to Oklahoma City via Chicago (reverse of outbound route).
I tracked the trip with a Bad Elf GPS Pro+ GPSr (GPS receiver), using my iPhone 12 (Gaia GPS app) as a backup (and the FlightRadar24 website). A few local trips were not recorded (since in-town trips are regularly ignored where we live).
NOTE: the downloadable GPX tracks are the full GPX files, while those shown on the provided "view map" links are simplified (with minimal effect on geographic accuracy) for much faster viewing.
Original GPX tracks are unedited, except where necessary to fill in missing data. Edited tracks are noted in their descriptions.

Monday, February 13
- GPX / view map—Driving to Bangor International Airport to trade rental cars (we needed an all-wheel drive car, because of a snow-covered, steep driveway, and the car we were given in Portland was front-wheel drive, despite our request for all-wheel drive), and to shop for various supplies in the Bangor/Brewer area.
- GPX / view map—Driving back to Ellsworth from the Bangor/Brewer area.
Tuesday, February 14
Saturday, February 18
- GPX / view map—Driving to the Ellsworth Transfer Station (trash disposal) and to Jordan Pond at Acadia National Park. The route through Seal Harbor (southeast of Jordan Pond) is not a through route, and should only be used when Stanley Brook Road (a short distance to the west) is closed for the season, as it is in February.
- GPX / view map—Hiking/walking a short distance in the area around the south shore of Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park. Snow and ice made hiking somewhat treacherous, although we did have ice spikes in case we really needed them (Topo).
- GPX / view map—Driving back to Ellsworth, including a stop at a local grocery store.
Sunday, February 19
- GPX / view map—Driving to Portland International Jetport in Portland, Maine, including a couple of stops for gas, and one for lunch/dinner in South Portland.
- GPX / view map—A very “noisy” track of our walking through Portland International Jetport (you may need to zoom out to see the map).
- GPX / view map—Flying from Portland, Maine to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after takeoff, it appears that the GPSr lost signal for a short time, resulting in a somewhat inaccurate rendering of our turn. See next entry for full track.
- GPX / view map—(FlightRadar24 track) The full version of the previous track.
- GPX / view map—Walking at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois.
- GPX / view map—Flying from Chicago, Illinois to Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

- GPX / view map—Riding from the airport at Oklahoma City. A short piece of the beginning appears to have been lost because of inadequate GPS signal.
