Maine 2024 (January)
Ellsworth and vicinity
Wednesday, January 17 through Wednesday, January 24, 2024
I flew from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Bangor, Maine via Houston and Newark international airports. In addition to doing tasks at the house (including assessing damage from recent storms and meeting with an engineer and contractor who helped fix a drainage issue with the driveway), I did manage to hike a little at Acadia National Park. I returned to Oklahoma City via Newark and Houston (reverse of outbound route).
I tracked the trip with a Bad Elf GPS Pro+ GPSr (GPS receiver), using my iPhone 12 (Gaia GPS app) as a backup (and the FlightRadar24 website). A few local trips may not have been recorded (since in-town trips are regularly ignored where we live).
NOTE: the downloadable GPX tracks are the full GPX files, while those shown on the provided "view map" links are simplified (with minimal effect on geographic accuracy) for much faster viewing.
Original GPX tracks are unedited, except where necessary to fill in missing data. Edited tracks are noted in their descriptions.

- GPX / view map—Driving to Seawall Picnic Area (Acadia National Park (ANP)), and finding it closed (because of recent storm damage), then returning to the trailhead for Ship Harbor Trail (also ANP)
- GPX / view map—Hiking a short distance on Ship Harbor Trail. I turned around early because I didn't carry my ice spikes with me on the trail, and the trail was very icy and somewhat steep beyond the turnaround point
- GPX / view map—Driving to the Parkman Mountain parking lot (ANP)
- GPX / view map—Hiking/walking on carriage roads to the Waterfall Bridge. Passage between the two "hairpin" turns (near the parking lot) was somewhat difficult because of a fallen tree across the road (Topo)
